The more we are advancing, the more we are relying on technology to make our lives easier, and Artificial Intelligence is just an extension of that. In this article, I will explain what AI is, why it’s important for us to be aware of its existence and where AI will take us in the future.
AI has come a long way from being just a concept or idea on paper to an actuality that we can see and use today. From Siri to self-driving cars, it touches every aspect of our lives and allows us to do things more efficiently than ever before. But there are also dangers associated with artificial intelligence — such as job loss because robots can work faster and cheaper than humans, or even an all-out robot uprising!

A lot of people have issues taking Artificial Intelligence seriously because they associate it with sci-fi movies like Terminator. But the truth is AI will take over many aspects of our lives in the near future. Especially as all this big data grows and computers are used to make decisions for us, something has to be doing that processing, and Artificial Intelligence will be the answer. So while there are more dangers around every turn than we’d like, I think it’s safe to say AI is here to stay and should at least be given some attention so you can prepare for what’s coming up ahead.
In the future, there will be a lot of robots that are helping us out in our daily lives. They’ll be doing jobs we’re too lazy to do and they’ll be living with us when we’re lonely. Artificial Intelligence will be all around us so it’s important we know what it is, how it works and how it’s impacting our world today.
Artificial Intelligence, or AI for short, is made possible by the way computers work. A computer can have hundreds of thousands of programs running at once. That’s because a computer has something called a microchip that keeps track of everything being done on the computer. The microchip breaks down all those actions into small steps so it’s easy to follow. The advantage of it is that it can handle a lot of data, which leads us to the next point:
If computers could think for itself, then we wouldn’t have to give them instructions, they would be able to complete tasks on their own. But AI doesn’t work that way because when programs run on a computer they use binary language. Binary is a series of 0’s and 1’s, and while it would likely be too slow for us to read, computers can understand it very easily. For instance, if you had to review 634 documents on the computer you could tell the computer to “find all instances where this word was used” when there were multiple words next to each other. The computer would simply read the 1’s and 0’s to know it was supposed to find every single document with that word in it, no matter how many there were. So while AI can get the job done faster than a human could, we have to write programs for them so they know what to do.
Now you might be wondering why we even want AI if it’s just a series of 1’s and 0’s. After all, we’re not trying to figure out what language aliens speak, or how computers work at a quantum level. The big benefit is that binary language can be understood very easily by machines so they can do things that take us much longer to do. That’s why Siri on your iPhone can understand and process your voice faster than you could. Computers are also very good at making sense of data. So let’s say there were thousands upon thousands of pictures on the internet, you could have a computer take those photos and determine commonalities among all the pictures automatically so it knows what 80% of all the photos online look like. That’s the power of AI and where a lot of technology is heading in the future.
A computer program that is capable of learning about things on its own is called machine learning. You’ve probably seen something that uses machine learning if you’ve ever taken an ad placement test online. It’s a series of questions and you have to choose the correct answer. After you’ve answered a few questions, it uses your answers and makes an educated guess for what answer you should give next. It’s important because it means computers are getting better at understanding how we think so they can use that in other areas of their work.
If that wasn’t enough, let me also give you my opinion. I personally think AI will become very important in the future because it is a way for computers to learn things on their own, and it might be the only way we’ll ever be able to talk with aliens.
Another thing that will become more important in the future is virtual reality. You might be wondering what it is and why this article has anything to do with AI. In the future, you’ll have a headset that will let you experience things on your own terms. You could visit places in the world without ever leaving your house or travel back in time to see how life was like hundreds of years ago. It would also allow you to live your life as someone else. You could have a whole new identity and experience things you’ve always wanted to try but never had the chance. While there are still some obstacles that need to be overcome before we’ll get to that level of technology, it is already being worked on today.
There is one last point I want to make. We are already seeing a lot of changes brought about by AI in the world today, but we aren’t quite at the level where we should be worried just yet. However, it’s important to start thinking about how our lives will change in twenty years from now so that we can foresee the future and know what kind of problems to look out for. I’ll leave you with this thought. A while ago, do you remember the movie Her? It’s about a man who has a relationship with what most people would call an AI. If that plot isn’t strange enough for you, he eventually marries her in the end!
