The colors that will sell your home this year – according to Zillow

The colors that will sell your home in 2021 are different from the paint color trends that have dominated Zillow’s popular Paint Color Analysis for the past few years. There are some unexpected returns of old favorites, as well as some new kids on the block. We guarantee you, however, that all these colors, especially the bedroom color ideas, are right on trend and will look great in your home, even if you’re not selling.

1. Blue dominates

You probably have already heard that blue is an excellent color to up the value of your bathroom, and the light blue bathroom color is still going strong this year. Incorporating blue bathroom ideas into your home decor will fetch you 1.6 percent more at resale, or an average of $5,000, according to the Zillow Paint Color Analysis.

Even more interestingly, blue bedrooms have risen to the top of bedroom colors, with a dark blue bathroom now the most covetable color for buyers. A warm, deep tone was found to increase home values the most, although the same was true for almost every shade of blue, including light blue and bright blue hues. You really can’t go wrong with it.

2. The return of white kitchens

Somewhat surprisingly, the latest issue of the Paint Color Analysis sees the return of white kitchen ideas as your surest bet for a higher home value. You don’t have to go all-white, either, if you find this color a bit boring. Zillow recommends that ‘If you want to make your kitchen attractive to buyers, go with a white wall.’ If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, try a dark and dramatic kitchen in a bold green, or a sweet and sunny light yellow.

3. The one color you should avoid at all costs

The Zillow offering of colors that sell your home for more has quite a bit of variation, with options both for those like calm neutrals and those who prefer bolder paint colors. However, there is one color that will reduce your home value regardless of what room it’s used in – bright yellow. We’re not talking the tasteful vanilla yellow that can actually be beneficial in many rooms. We mean the bright danger sign yellow – it will reduce the value of your home, always. Steer clear.
