Interior Designer Kelly Behun Introduces Her Living Gallery Concept At 1228 Madison Avenue

Award-winning interior designer Kelly Behun’s artful approach to design can now be enjoyed by everyone via her Living Gallery concept at new Upper East Side luxury residential building 1228 Madison Avenue.

Behun, an AD100 and Elle Decor A-List Designer, is known for her highly bespoke interior furnishings and style. She is the exclusive interior designer at 1228 Madison, built by renowned firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects, responsible for some of New York’s most acclaimed buildings. She designed the 14 full-floor homes, duplex penthouse and triplex penthouse. Behun is also responsible for the beautiful amenities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center and training studio, a landscaped roof deck and the stunning lobby. She worked closely with the architecture firm on the entire project, including complementing the classical elements of the building’s RAMSA façade.

What’s so striking about Behun’s design is how bright and whimsical it is, which strays from the masculine-leaning design elements found in many of New York’s residential buildings. While you’ll see dark-hued wallpaper and jewel-tone colors and decor, residences also feature monochrome, beige bedrooms, pastel furniture and art, gold hardware, unique prints, sculptural ceramics and museum-quality art.

MORE FOR YOU

The style of Behun’s interiors create a warm, joyful and lovely ambiance that truly makes the project standout among others in the city. Each sun-drenched residence also welcomes the outdoors through large windows, and Behun capitalized on the spacious layouts and high ceilings to make each residence bright and airy.

She is bringing her high-impact design to everyone through the Living Gallery concept, located on the building’s fourth floor. Available for touring by residents or online, the Living Gallery is a shoppable four-bedroom model residence that features products and design inspiration for every room in a home, from the entrance and foyer to kids’ rooms, a great room and beyond. Behun curated a range of custom, collectible and readily available items that she sourced from a unique range of designers and artists.

Products are from Wendell Castle, Callidus Guild, Humble Matter, Gracie Studio, DLV Designs, Casey McCafferty, Herman Miller, Gucci Décor, Dobrinka Salzman, Sunshine Thacker, Paul S. Briggs and Hostler Burrows. Behun also includes pieces from her latest collaboration with Hudson Valley Lighting, custom-made designs for The Rug Company, L’Objet, Anthropologie, Rejuvenation and much, much more. An avid art collector herself, she also partnered with several well-known and emerging artists to showcase their work.

There is also an e-commerce site to shop Behun’s expertly curated rooms. The Living Gallery is akin to an art gallery and showcases her thoughtful, ultra-high-end design style.
