In Simple Terms

The Internet is a network of computer networks that allows computers from all over the world to share data and information with each other.

The internet is used to transfer all kinds of data via several different ways called protocols. Some protocols you may be familiar with are:

  • FTP  or File Transfer Protocol (used to move files from one computer to another)
  • POP – Post Office Protocol (used to send and receive email)
  • HTTP – Hypertext Transfer Protocol (the standard way of transferring HTML documents between Web servers and browsers  on the World Wide Web.
